Don’t be intimidated into giving ‘Christmas boxes’ to Solid Waste staff
Don’t be intimidated into giving ‘Christmas boxes’ to Solid Waste staff | |
The City of Cape Town would like to advise residents that the Solid Waste Management Department enforces a policy which strictly forbids its personnel from asking residents for ‘Christmas boxes’ and soliciting any donations. Staff have been reminded that this practice is prohibited. ‘If, however, residents believe that excellent service has been provided, they are of course at liberty to give a voluntary donation to staff as a gesture of thanks and goodwill, but under no circumstances should they be approached and asked for money. City staff are appropriately remunerated,’ says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Utility Services, Councillor Ernest Sonnenberg. It would be appreciated if residents could report any incidents of intimidation by City staff to the call centre on 0860 103 089 during office hours, 08:00 – 16:30. Apart from the date, time, and place, a vehicle registration number should be provided so that the culprits can be identified. Such reports will be investigated immediately and, where residents are willing to testify, the City will be able to take disciplinary action against the offenders. The City also wishes to advise residents that refuse collection services will remain unchanged during the festive period, even on public holidays. ‘Due to there being less traffic on the roads during the holiday period, collection teams might arrive at their premises earlier than usual. It is therefore best that residents place their bins out before 06:00 during this time,’ says Councillor Sonnenberg. Residents are also advised that all drop-off facilities will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Furthermore, amended operating hours of 08:00 – 17:00 will be in place at all facilities except the Hout Bay drop-off site on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The Hout Bay facility will operate from 07:00 – 17:00 on these days. For any other solid waste-related service queries, residents can contact the City’s call centre on 0860 103 089. |
