” …. my little dog was attacked by a bull-terrier …..”

“About a month ago my little dog who was on a leash  and was attacked by a bullterrier that was not on a leash. I have been in and out of the animal hospital since and not only that, I am SO traumatized by this incident that Im unable to take my dogs for a walk. I have had nightmares since. My dog is fortunate to be alive and that was because I fought this bullterrier so much so that I was on the ground  with them and could have been bitten too. Since this has happened to me, the stories are endless of other owners who have lost their little dogs to similar attacks.

The reason for me emailing you, is that this has to stop. We have a right to walk our dogs just as much as owners who have big dogs. It is not fair that little dogs and us owners have this experience. This is a serious problem and something has to be done . I have contacted law enforcement. It is NOT allowed to walk your dog without a leash. The field at the end of Beaumont Road has no signs that no dogs are to be walked without a leash and I ask that a sign must go up.  People bring their big dogs without a leash from other areas and we have small dogs, children and cats in our street that need to be protected. Can you please send out emails or a notice in letter boxes to notify people that it is against the law. That a fine of R500 will be given for a dog without a leash; and if a dog without a leash attacks a dog on a leash, the dog will be impounded and the owner will have 10 days to explain why he feels his dog should not be put down and if not a good enough reason, his dog will be put down.

I often drive to the dam to take my dogs for a walk only to find loose dogs and then go back home to avoid what I went through recently.

I trust something will be done about this.”
