JOHANNESBURG – Eskom has announced that load shedding will begin at 9am throughout the country.
The power utility says it is likely that load shedding will last until the weekend.
It’s confirmed the power grid is under severe pressure.
The utility declared an emergency early this morning after days of rain left its coal supplies wet.
All customers, industrial and domestic, have been asked to cut their use urgently.
Eskom’s Andrew Etzinger says the load-shedding schedules on its website now kick into effect.
“We will from 9am be implementing load shedding across the country according to our schedule.”
Etzinger says power cuts will last for two hours at a time.
“We’ve tried to be as equitable as possible and we’ve worked with municipalities to be as fair as possible so it will be on a roster basis.”
