Congratulations to you and the Committee for achieving CID status for Vredekloof! It was a long journey for you to reach this point, and it took a lot of hard work and perseverance to get us all persuaded to buy into the idea. Well done! I am very grateful for the committee’s efforts, because our clearly improved environment has served to enhance my very simple house. It is a pleasure to live in Vredekloof because it feels safe and because it is becoming cleaner and neater and greener every day – and it will remain a pleasure, if the suburb continues steadily to improve rather than steadily to downgrade, as can so easily happen if we all aren’t careful. Our suburb is looking endlessly better than when I first arrived here. As I drive down the streets every day, I admire and value every new tree that is planted, every plant that has been allowed to grow bigger in size, every lawn that is freshly cut, every wall that has been painted, and every gutter that has just been swept. Many thanks indeed to you and to every resident that is putting in an effort. I want to encourage the planting of trees as one of the easiest, most permanent, AND most convincing ways to beautify our suburb. I also want to discourage the over-pruning of our trees. We need every leaf, twig and branch we have to soften our concrete-and-tar scenery, and please our eyes as well as the eyes of our visitors and potential buyers!
